It is used to treat edema (fluid retention) that occurs with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, and nephrotic syndrome. It is also used to treat high blood pressure and to diagnose and treat primary hyperaldosteronism (a condition where too much aldosterone is produced by the adrenal glands).
